Old |
This is a little book shop that I go to every time I go downtown. There's a different atmosphere in there, and you're transported to a place- a different time even. Theres thousands of old books, maps, paintings, photographs, and an old man sits near the door at his desk and uses a typewriter. It reminds me of the time I went to London, where they embrace the past and keep their history tied with them. They aren't in much rush to modernize everything, whereas here, in the US, we are constantly thinking about the future. This is why I chose to take a picture of that place, to capture history in the present.

This shop was just aesthetically pleasing to me, with the yellow of the flowers and the green trim of the building standing out against one another. It reminded me of little towns that had shops like these, on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. I hd gone there once on vacation, and there was a small town called Dixboro next to the lakeside. Little local shops like these make me really happy and make me feel at home, which is why I took the picture.
When It Rains |
Simple Structures |
Staircase to Heaven |
This little alley way had a small little structure, and a staircase leading to a door that wasn't attached to the building. It was very odd and unexpected, yet the flowers painted on the wall made it seem normal. It was like a place you stood under when it rained, and you could fill the wall with whatever painting you wanted. The graffiti was my favorite part of this structure, and I had to capture it.

Flying Flag |
This was the tallest building that was in sight, and I had to take a picture when the Michigan flag was flying. It gives a sense of security and makes you feel at home in your own city. I couldn't get the trees out of the picture, but I think that the orange leaves and the bright blue sky made a great contrast against each other. It was hard getting a good angle for this place.

Lights and Bells |
This is the tallest lighthouse on Lake Michigan, a place I visited earlier this fall with my mom and my grandma. We got to climb all the way up to the top, and look down over at the water. I needed to take a picture of how tall it was, and the cute little house that sat beside it. It brings back great memories for me, I felt like I was on top of the world when I was up near the light and the bell. It wasn't too hard to get a nice photo of this place .
